New Zealand Views above French Ridge Hut, Mount Aspiring National Park

Mount Aspiring National Park offers many great opportunities for multi day hikes. The French Ridge Hut ist just below some huge glaciers on the right site of the valley with stunning views into the valley, the opposite mountain range and with hikes straight to the glaciers.

Even if your legs are burning, you shouldn't just linger in the hut, but get up for the sunset and do a few more meters in altitude.

The views near the glacier offer an incredible number of photo opportunities at sunset.

Start your hiking at the Rasperry Flat Carpark. This 34 km out-and-back trail has around 1579 meter of elevation and is a very long and challenging hike. The last three kilometers to the French Ridge Hut are very steep and sometimes slippery. You definitely need experience in the mountains to get to this hut. Don´t go in bad weather and check this almost in advance.

The track to the marked spot is around 2km long with 200-250 meters of elevation. In this high alpine area is not really a trail. You mostly need to find your own way.
