New Zealand Gillespie Beach Lagoon
Gillespies Beach is a remote stretch of coastline on New Zealand's West Coast, famous for its tranquil lagoon reflecting Aoraki / Mount Cook and the Southern Alps on calm days. The combination of black sand, native forest, historic gold-mining remains, and spectacular mountain views makes it one of the country's most photogenic locations.
Photography Tips
If you wait for the water to flow in and out of the lagoon, you might be able to get beautiful reflections, preferably mornings and evenings.
Travel Information
Gillespies Beach is located about 20 km (25 minutes) southwest of Fox Glacier and is reached via Gillespies Beach Road. The beach is easily accessible by car, with a small parking area and several short walking tracks leading to the lagoon.
