Preikestolen or Prekestolen (Norwegian for the pulpit or the pulpit) is a natural rock platform at Ryfylke in the Norwegian province of Rogaland and a tourist attraction with extensive views over the Lysefjord and adjacent mountains. The cliff edge drops 604 meters vertically into the nearly 40-kilometre-long fjord.

Photography Tips

I tried to create some leading lines by using the edge in my foreground. Be aware of the 600m drop-down into the fjord! Do not go near the edge if you are afraid of heights! The people in the picture give this image a natural-looking style and can be helpful for storytelling. Come here in the late afternoon and stay until sunset. Most people will leave earlier and you can catch the nice mountain glow!

Travel Information

You will have to hike approx. 600m elevation to get to Preikestolen. Make sure to check the weather forecast and bring enough water with you. Also, some proper clothing since it can be very windy up there!
