Havnnes is described as one of Norway's most beautifully situated trading places. In 2014, Havnnes was awarded the Olavsrosa, Norway's leading quality mark for experiences based on cultural heritage.

Finds from the Stone Age show that people have lived here for over 6,000 years, and on the west side there are rock paintings that are in all probability between 5 and 7,000 years old. It includes 8 to 10 painted figures.
