Portugal Lagoa do Peixão
Moderate access lagoon with a fantastic sunrise, in which the mountains turn orange.
Lagoa do Peixão is a serene freshwater lagoon nestled in the Alentejo region of Portugal, not far from the Atlantic coast. Surrounded by pine forests and gentle hills, it’s a peaceful spot that remains relatively unknown to most tourists. The lagoon is a haven for birds and a favorite place for locals who enjoy fishing, swimming, or relaxing in nature. Its still waters reflect the sky like a mirror, especially at sunset, creating a magical, almost untouched atmosphere. If you're seeking a quiet escape off the beaten path, Lagoa do Peixão is a hidden gem worth discovering.

Photography Tips
The best time of day is at sunrise. Get low to the ground to capture the lagoon’s mirror-like surface and look for symmetry in the scenery. Use a wide-angle lens to show the calm expanse, and include a subject like a branch, bird, or rock to add depth. Keep your lens clean and steady for the clearest shots.
Travel Information
You have two options to reach this wonderful spot, but at first, the booths are on the track called the Rota do Maçico Central. The first option starts at Covāo da Ametade and takes more or less up to 3 hours, depending on your physical conditions and the weight of your equipment. Be aware that in some parts, you have to climb up small tracks and rocks.
The second starts from the road near the Torre (the highest peak in continental Portugal): N339. This hike is shorter but both need a good knowledge of the landmarks, rock formations to find your way throw the dark. I suggest, at first, a hike by daylight before you start to capture a glowing light during the sunrise. But it is worth it.
