Vale Gonçalo is a very special area in the steppe around Castro Verde. Most of the site is a protected area and there is an education center (CEAVG - Environmental Education Center Valley Gonçalinho). The area is a hot spot for Castro Verde steppe avifauna and is owned by the LPN (Liga para a Protecção da Natureza), an important NGO for nature protection.
