Portugal Rio Zêzere, Manteigas, Serra da Estrela
In addition to many popular photo spots in the Serra da Estrela, there are more discreet photographic subjects where the geological uniqueness of these mountains can be discovered—for example, this water-filled pool that formed after heavy rainfall along the banks of the Rio Zêzere. The best time to visit is shortly after sunrise or in the morning on a cloudy day. Winter and spring, following periods of heavy rain, are recommended for photographic exploration.
Photography Tips
For this location, a tripod and a graduated ND filter are essential to properly capture the dynamic lighting conditions. Sturdy boots, rain gear, or high waterproof hiking boots are also highly recommended, as the terrain can be wet and slippery, especially after rainfall. Just a short distance away, the Abrigo do Faíscas, a former shepherd's shelter built into the rock, offers an additional point of interest worth exploring.
Travel Information
Coming from Manteigas via the ER338, a small road leads down the slope to a camping area where you can also park your vehicle. From there, it’s just a short walk to the banks of the Rio Zêzere.
