Portugal Ponta dos Rosais, Azores
Ponta dos Rosais, the northwestern tip of São Jorge Island in the Azores, is a stunning promontory rising 200 meters above the Atlantic. This 170.2-hectare Natural Monument, part of the Nature Park of São Jorge, boasts dramatic cliffs, islets, and the Baixa da Ponta dos Rosais oceanic plateau, a haven for divers. It hosts nesting seabirds like roseate terns and Cory’s shearwaters, alongside endemic flora such as Azorean heather. The abandoned 1958 lighthouse, damaged by earthquakes, adds historical intrigue. Visitors enjoy breathtaking views of Faial and Pico islands, though cliff instability advises caution.
