One of the most spectacular places on Flores, but from a perspective you rarely see. Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro is surrounded by an enormous green amphitheater where countless waterfalls stream down the steep volcanic cliffs into the vegetation and lagoon below.

From the ground, you mainly experience the height of the cliffs. From directly above, the entire landscape suddenly becomes almost abstract: thin white waterfalls cutting through endless shades of green, dense forest, and the dark water of the lagoon.

The classic composition here is obviously from the viewpoint beside the lagoon, but a top-down drone shot completely changes the location's character.

Instead of trying to include the horizon, point the camera almost completely downward and use the waterfalls as bright leading lines through the vegetation. Flying after rainfall can make a huge difference too. The more water coming down the cliffs, the stronger those white lines become against the deep greens.

Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro, sometimes also called Alagoinha, is located on the western side of Flores and is one of the island's absolute must-see locations.

From the parking area, a short but sometimes wet and slippery trail leads through dense vegetation to the lagoon and viewpoint. Good footwear is highly recommended, particularly after rain.

And rain isn't necessarily something to avoid here: after periods of heavy rainfall, the waterfalls are at their most impressive, which can make this one of the best times to photograph the location.
