New Cathedral of Salamanca, Spain Spain

This photo of the exterior was taken at night from a room in Hotel san Polo which provides very nice accommodation.

You get two for the price of one by visiting the cathedral. The Old Cathedral of Salamanca was founded in the 12th C and completed in the 14th C. The New Cathedral of Salamanca was grafted onto the east side of the Old building over a period of two centuries from 16th to 18th C. Both are a mixture of styles, principally Gothic with a bit of Romanesque and Plateresque. The interiors are sumptuous without being "over-the-top".

Travel Information

I flew to Salamanca. Cars are not allowed in the old town so for easy access to the historic areas it is best to get accommodation right in the old town. There are plenty of options available. You can then walk everywhere.
