Svalbard & Jan Mayen Islands Fyrtårnet east
The east side of "Fyrtårnet" (the lighthouse tower) resembles a statue gazing out over the sea. The sea stack is 42 meters high and is located on the isolated island of Jan Mayen at 71 degrees North.
Photography Tips
You need your own boat to get into position to photograph this cliff. It's located a short distance from shore, about 1 kilometer south of Olonkinbyen. The weather in the area is often bad, so accessibility is limited.
Travel Information
It is possible to travel to Jan Mayen, but it's not easy and access is highly restricted. Jan Mayen is a Norwegian territory, and while Norwegian citizens can visit, they need to contact the station commander before arrival. Foreign citizens must obtain permission from Norwegian authorities. Independent travel is practically impossible due to the lack of ports, airports, and regular transport.
