Kilchurn Castle is a ruined structure on a rocky peninsula at the northeastern end of Loch Awe, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It was first constructed in the mid-15th century as the base of the Campbells of Glenorchy, who extended both the castle and their territory in the area over the next 150 years.

Photography Tips

After shooting the castle, go to the other side of the river through the road, jump the fence (there are stairs to help - the fence is there so the cattle don't leave) to see from another angle.

Travel Information

I think for now the castle is officially closed, even though Google and their website don't mention anything. There is no sign indicating where the castle is. You have to trust the GPS. There's a construction going on on the entrance and maybe that's why it's closed. You can't go inside the castle, but going around it is still possible and free. This info may change very soon.
