United Kingdom Dovercourt Lighthouses
In Dovercourt there are a pair of restored lighthouses, one on the beach the other a little way out to sea. They're unique and were restored in 1985-8 by grants and public support.
Photography Tips
With the gravel "beach", the breakers and the variations in tides this is a good location for long exposure shots with the sea, or a moody feel when the tide is out. Good elements on hand to create structure and leading lines.
Travel Information
There's good road links to Harwich, the A12 runs north from London and Dovercourt is a little south. Alongside the beach there's a road with plenty of free parking early in the morning or later in the day. Step out of your car, across onto the promenade then take a few steps down onto the shingle beach. The first lighthouse is a few metres from the promenade, you can't miss it.
