The usual view from this spot is not nearly as impressive, I would recommend only using this spot when the Christmas Markets are on and then only at night, using the illumination from the fair.

Walk or get the bus, there is parking about 10-15 mins away, but as with most locations in Edinburgh walking or busses are usually the best ways of getting around
