United Kingdom Bamburgh Castle

There has been a fortification on this site since c. 420. The Vikings destroyed the original fortification in 993 and the Normans rebuilt a castle which formed the basis the present-day edifice.

About 14 km south is Dunstanburgh Castle and about 8 km north is Holy Island.

Photography Tips

Although I was unable to be there in the late afternoon / evening, I think this would be the best time to be there. The B&W was taken from the north where there is a rocky outcrop which may provide some foreground interest.

Travel Information

I'm not sure about public transport, we drove there. There is a car park at the foot of the castle as well as parking in the town. Very busy when we were there in July.
