United Kingdom The Temple Bar Dragon
In the Temple Bar area of London, just outside the Royal Courts of Justice, stands an ornate column supporting a fine sculpture of a dragon. This was once the location of a gate to the City of London. The monument was commissioned by the royal family (Queen Victoria is seen sheltering in the column) but the dragon has, for much longer, been a symbol of England and the City of London, AKA the Square Mile, the part of London that dates back to Roman times. Yes, I know, Saint George, England’s patron saint, slayed a dragon, but clearly not this one.
Travel Information
The nearest tube station is Temple but if you’re walking the area, head for the Royal Courts of Justice or Middle Temple Lane. If you like old architecture, this is a great area to just wander with a camera.
