USA Mobius Arch, Alabama Hills
Mobius Arch is a natural rock formation in the Alabama Hills of California, near the eastern Sierra Nevada. Carved by wind and weather over time, it forms a graceful loop that perfectly frames Mount Whitney in the distance—the highest peak in the contiguous United States. The arch is named after the mathematical Möbius strip due to its twisted shape, though it isn’t a true Möbius form. It's a popular spot for photographers, especially at sunrise and sunset, when the light paints the rocks in warm colors and the mountains glow behind the arch. The short trail to reach it is easy and offers breathtaking desert and mountain views.
Photography Tips
Best as the sun rises from the East and lights up Mt. Whitney seen through the arch looking West. Go early morning when the sun shines on the arch and there are fewer people.
