USA Wire Pass and Buckskin Gulch

Most people seeking a slot canyon go to Antelope in Arizona. That requires reservations and must be done with a guide. While perhaps not quite as dramatic, Wire Pass is an extraordinary geological formation and unlike Antelope, you will spend most of the time alone. This is quite remote.

Photography Tips

Best between 10:00 and 14:30, depending upon season. If the sun is too low, light doesn't enter the slot. Extreme caution must be taken regarding flash floods. Being caught in the slot during a flood can be deadly. Rain water come from higher elevations. It's necessary to check weather reports a full day in advance.

Travel Information

This is not easy to find, which explains why it won't be crowded. The dirt road is passable with a conventional vehicle for much of the year, but after heavy rains, a 4 wheel drive vehicle may be required.
