USA Horseshoe Bend, Page AZ
Area where the Colorado River bends 180º.
Photography Tips
This location is quite crowded during the day and even more so for sunset. Arrive early to ensure you are able to secure a spot at the edge of the canyon. Horseshoe bend can be difficult to photograph a sunset due to the highlights in the sky and the dark shadows in the canyon. I used several images (over and under exposed) and combined them in Lightroom to create this HDR image.
Travel Information
Horseshoe Bend is located a short distance south of Page AZ along Hwy 89 (between mile markers 544 & 545). There is a parking lot at the location however it fills up well before sunset (anther reason to get here early). A 1 km hike from the parking lot to the canyon edge. The last time I was here (March 2019) the Park Service was improving the parking lot and walking trail. They had also installed some safety railings around a portion of the rim however most of the rim was unprotected ... be careful.
