Seldom visited area of colorful bentonite hills. You may explore in any direction. I kept to the western edge of the canyon wall as it gradually narrowed to a shallow slot and followed the slot for about 3/4 mile. This photo was taken about 200 yards north of where you park.

Photography Tips

I was there in the morning and looking toward the rising sun for much of my visit. I think mid to late afternoon would be best for photography.

Travel Information

Traveling east from the BLM office (Bureau of Land Management) in Kanab, Utah drive 38 miles east on Highway 89 where you’ll find House Rock Valley Road on your right. There’s a guardrail that begins just a few yards past that road. Continue on Hwy. 89 for 1.5 miles past House Rock Valley Road where you’ll see an opening in the guardrail on the left side of the road. Turn left there on the dirt/gravel road to a gate. Open the gate and drive through, closing the gate behind you. Drive about 200 yards until the road ends and park. This is public land, so it’s OK to explore the area.
