Dark sky in the desert just off Highway 24 north of Hanksville, Utah. This spot is near numerous other highly photogenic places including Goblin Valley, Horseshoe Canyon, Little Wildhorse Canyon, Crack Canyon, Chute Canyon, Eye of Sinbad, and Little Egypt. Also, the drive down highway 95 south of Hanksville, Utah is one of the most scenic drives in the Southwest U.S.

Photography Tips

Wide angle fast lens. I used a 14mm 2.8; 30 sec.

Travel Information

From the intersection of highways 24 and 95 in Hanksville, Utah, drive north on 24 for 6.6 miles (10.6 km) to a dirt/sand road at Kathline Rock. There’s a short (30 ft) section of moderate deep sand just after the turn off of highway 24. There’s mostly sandstone in the area around the rock formations. Plenty of room to park.
