This unmarked roadside pull-off along Southside Drive offers a unique perspective of El Capitan rising behind the Merced River. Photography Tips

Arrive early to capture the first light hitting El Capitan from behind the trees. A tripod and ND filter will help smooth the river for a more tranquil effect. Compose vertically or horizontally using the river as a leading line. A 24–70mm lens is perfect for balancing the foreground flow with the towering granite face.

Travel Information

Located just off Southside Drive, about 30–40 feet from the road. There’s no official trail or sign — just a discreet pull-off with enough space for a car or two. Use caution when pulling over and crossing any brush. It's easily accessible with a short walk down to the riverbank.
