Dog Slaughter Falls is a hidden gem tucked deep in Daniel Boone National Forest near Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. The falls drop into a stunning canyon-like setting framed by massive sandstone rock walls, creating a natural amphitheater feel that sets it apart from other waterfalls in the region. The amber-tinted plunge pool, moss-covered boulders, and surrounding hardwood forest make this an exceptional location during peak fall color.

Photography Tips

A wide angle lens works best here. A long exposure of 1 to 4 seconds will smooth both the waterfall and the flowing water in the foreground. The canyon walls block direct sunlight for much of the day, making overcast conditions ideal for even lighting. Fall color in the canopy above the canyon typically peaks in mid to late October.

Travel Information

Access via the Dog Slaughter Falls Trail off KY-90 near Corbin, Kentucky. The trailhead has a small parking area. The hike to the falls is approximately 2 miles round trip on a relatively easy trail that follows Dog Slaughter Creek. No entrance fee required for this section of Daniel Boone National Forest.
