USA Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, San Diego, CA
This is a great and yet unknown spot either to shoot sunrise or sunset in San Diego, CA. Not many photographers are aware of it. If you are in San Diego, definitely go here either to view sunrise over the mountains east of San Diego or a wonderful sunset over the Pacific Ocean.
Stunning views in all 360 degrees. Sunsets and the Pacific Ocean to the West, View of the highway and the Mormon Temple to the North, The mountains and great sunrises to the East, and lots of canyon tops to the South. There are benches surrounding the hilltop park, giving beautiful views all around. The open sections of the cross of the memorial are oriented to take advantage of the light at sunrise and sunset. Also, a great location for drone photography when not crowded with people.

Photography Tips
though you can get some nice shots with a wide angle like 24-70 mm, a telezoom like 70-200 mm would give some nice shots of either sunrise or sunset and a tripos is definitely recommended.
Travel Information
There is ample parking available and it's free. I am not sure about the sunset, but for sunrise, not many people were present, just a reasonable number.
Gates to the park are open 7 am -10 pm.
