Vietnam Bau Truc Pottery Workshop - Hai Au Facility

Bau Truc is one of the oldest traditional pottery villages in Southeast Asia, renowned for its unique hand-molding technique where Cham artisans walk around the clay block instead of using a potter's wheel. The Hai Au workshop (Cơ sở Hải Âu) inside the village offers an intimate look at this UNESCO-recognized living craft.
Inside the rustic workshop surrounded by handmade terracotta vases and jars, dramatic natural light pours through window bars, illuminating rising dust motes and creating moody, cinematic light rays. It is an incredible location for cultural portraiture, fine-art photography, and capturing the emotional connection between the Cham artisans and their terracotta creations

Best Time: Morning (8:00 AM – 10:30 AM) or mid-afternoon (2:30 PM – 4:00 PM) when sunbeams stream through the workshop windows, creating striking chiaroscuro light and shadow effects. Best Gear: A fast prime lens (e.g., 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.8, or 85mm f/1.8) is ideal for low-light indoor shooting, capturing rich textures on the unglazed pottery, and creating soft background bokeh.
Composition: Use window frames and soft directional light to highlight the artisan's face, hands, and the fine details of the clay pottery.

Located in Phuoc Dan Town, about 10 km south of Phan Rang - Thap Cham City. Easily accessible by car, taxi, or motorbike via National Route 1A.
Drive by car or motorbike into Bau Truc village and park at designated parking areas near the village entrance or directly at the Hai Au workshop compound with permission.
