Canada Morant's Curve
Iconic photo from Banff National Park, Canada. The CP rail line runs along the Bow River with the Rocky Mountains in the background. The curve is named after Canadian Pacific photographer Nicholas Morant who took many photos here. Morant’s photos were so popular that some appeared on the backs of Canadian $10, $50, and $100 bills.
Photography Tips
Great location to shoot anytime of the day, although you may prefer sunrise or sunset. This is the main CP Rail line running along the Bow River. There is no set schedule for the trains but they do run fairly frequently so you have to get set up and wait. Im my case it was only a 20 min wait. The trains can come from either direction and you can usual hear them before you see them.
Travel Information
This site is easily accessible and a short 10 min drive from Lake Louise along highway 1A. There is a small parking lot across the road. Recent highway improvements have provided a wide sidewalk and viewing area across from the parking lot.
