Pulkkilanharju is one of the most scenic roads in Finland's Lakeland region, stretching along a narrow natural ridge surrounded by Lake Päijänne. Near Asikkala, this beautiful route connects small islands, forested sections, and bridges, creating an incredible landscape from above.

This section is so photogenic because a gently curving road runs between two bodies of water, with dense forests in the background. Especially during golden hour, warm sunlight, dark blue water, and green trees combine to create a beautiful atmosphere.

A drone is the best way to capture Pulkkilanharju's unique geography. Position your drone above the water and use the curving road as a leading line towards the forested peninsula. A slightly elevated, forward-facing perspective works particularly well to include both sides of the lake.

For this shot, adding a vehicle on the road adds scale and emphasizes the road-trip atmosphere. Late afternoon and golden hour are especially beautiful, as the low sunlight creates long shadows and highlights the shoreline.

Experiment with different altitudes and compositions to capture the contrast between the narrow road, surrounding water, and forested landscape.

Pulkkilanharju is located near Asikkala in southern Finland, approximately 30 kilometers north of Lahti and around 140 kilometers from Helsinki. The scenic road follows regional route 314 across Lake Päijänne and is easily accessible by car or campervan.

Several parking areas along the route allow visitors to stop and explore the surroundings. The nearby Pulkkilanharju Nature Trail also offers beautiful views of the lake and forest landscape.

The road is accessible year-round, but late spring through autumn offers particularly attractive conditions for photography. September is a great time to visit, when the first autumn colors begin appearing in the surrounding forests. For drone photography, always check current airspace restrictions and avoid flying directly above moving traffic.
