Georgia Sabanela Lake, Georgia
Sabanela Lake is a small alpine lake hidden in the mountains near Goderdzi Pass in Adjara. Surrounded by rolling green slopes and a few scattered mountain huts, the lake feels remarkably remote despite being relatively close to the pass road. From above, its deep blue water creates a beautiful contrast with the surrounding grasslands, especially when low clouds move through the valley.
Photography Tips
A drone is particularly useful at Sabanela Lake, as the aerial perspective reveals the shape of the lake and the contours of the surrounding mountains. Try flying slightly higher and shooting at an angle rather than directly downward to include the layered valleys and clouds in the background. Moody weather works exceptionally well here, while occasional sunlight breaking through the clouds can create dramatic patches of light across the green slopes. Make sure to bring a polarization filter to enhance the blue color!
Travel Information
Sabanela Lake can be reached from the Goderdzi Pass road. One option is to park safely alongside the road below the lake and hike up the mountain, while the lake can also be photographed from the surrounding area with a drone. The terrain is steep in places and weather conditions can change quickly, so proper footwear is recommended if hiking. There are no major facilities around the lake, making it a quiet stop to combine with other locations around Goderdzi Pass and Green Lake.
