The Kloster Jerichow is a stunning historical complex and the proud namesake of the surrounding Jerichower Land district. Founded in the 12th century, it is one of the oldest and most significant monuments of North German Brick Romanesque architecture. The incredibly well-preserved, unplastered red-brick structures offer a uniquely pure and historic aesthetic. The grounds are beautifully maintained and feature a tranquil monastery garden, a local shop, and a café, making it a peaceful and highly rewarding location for architectural photography.

Photography Tips

This expansive complex offers fantastic opportunities for both ground-level and aerial photography. If local flight regulations allow, a drone provides a spectacular bird's-eye view, capturing the impressive footprint of the monastery, its striking rooflines, and the lush surrounding gardens in a single frame. From the ground, you can use the clean, rounded arches typical of the Romanesque style to perfectly frame your shots. The beautiful monastery garden also serves as an excellent foreground, adding vibrant seasonal colors and natural depth to your images of the historic brick church.

Travel Information

Jerichow is situated slightly off the beaten path, requiring a scenic detour if you are traveling via the A2 autobahn. However, it is very accessible upon arrival, with convenient parking located right next to the monastery grounds. Because the site is located in a more rural area, it is highly recommended to make a full day trip out of it by visiting the nearby Hanseatic towns of Tangermünde and Stendal. Both are just a short drive away and feature gorgeous historic old towns that perfectly complement a photography tour through the region.
