Germany Großer Dungberg
The Großer Dungberg is a distinct, heavily wooded elevation rising prominently from the surrounding open fields between the idyllic villages of Waldrogäsen and Wüstenjerichow. Situated in the beautiful Fläming region and part of the Jerichower Schweiz, this small but striking hill is completely covered by a dense canopy of mature trees. An incredibly scenic, unpaved path beautifully lined with ancient oak trees runs directly past the elevation, connecting Waldrogäsen and Wüstenjerichow for hikers and cyclists. While it is a quiet, subtle natural feature rather than a major tourist attraction, its proximity to the expansive Wüstenjerichow fish ponds makes it a highly picturesque and tranquil corner of the Jerichower Land.
Photography Tips
Because the Großer Düngberg is entirely covered by trees and sits in the middle of a field, taking to the air with a drone provides the absolute best perspective to capture its unique, island-like shape. Flying during the golden hour allows you to perfectly capture the warm, directional sunlight flooding over the agricultural landscape, creating long, dramatic shadows and beautifully highlighting the lush green canopy of the hill. Including the shimmering surfaces of the adjacent fish ponds in the background of your aerial frame adds fantastic depth and contrast to the composition. When flying over these agricultural and forested areas, always ensure you maintain a clear visual line of sight and adhere to local drone regulations regarding nature reserves and wildlife.
Travel Information
While the Großer Düngberg itself is a quick photo stop rather than a full-day excursion, it is perfectly situated to be combined with a broader exploration of the area. You can easily find convenient parking in Wüstenjerichow and take a highly relaxing walk past the local fish ponds directly toward the hill. The immediate surroundings offer wonderful additional sights, including the historic Parkschlösschen and the peaceful Waldfriedhof in nearby Waldrogäsen. After your hike and photography session, returning to Wüstenjerichow is highly recommended; you can enjoy an excellent meal at the local restaurant, purchase fresh regional catch from the renowned Fischbetrieb Uwe Marx, or even spend a quiet afternoon angling at the ponds.
