Greenland View to the west deep in Øjford, Scoresbysund

he deeper you sailed into Øfjord (if coming from the east), the better the conditions became for looking west towards the evening light. During summer, the sun sets in that direction, creating beautiful golden light, haze and long reflections around the mountains and icebergs. Reaching these deeper parts of the fjord is what makes it possible to experience and photograph this special light at its best.

Use a longer lens to compress smaller details in the landscape like icebergs next to the huge mountains.

Try to find some nice interesting subjects for a framing on the sailing boat like the bull eye.

When photographing from a moving sailing boat, increase your shutter speed to around 1/500s or faster to compensate for the boat’s movement, then adjust ISO a bit accordingly if necessary.

Scoresbysund is one of the most remote places you can reach in Greenland. There are no roads or infrastructure here. The area is explored by sailing boat, smaller expedition vessel, kayak or multi-day guided kayak trips, with August to roughly mid-September being the best window to experience it. Just around 500 people coming per year.
