Iceland Red and black craters

  • Please log in or sign up for free to see the GPS coordinates & weather for this photo spot
Iceland's famous red and black craters can easily be missed when driving on the gravel road towards Landmannalaugar. You can only spot a bit of red on top of it from the ground.

Photography Tips

Use a drone here to get shots like this. The red colors only pop from the air and are hardly seen from the ground. Be aware of low-flying aircraft in this area since many take small planes or helicopters for scenic flights. Best to fly in the early morning or late evening.

Travel Information

I parked the car on the side of the road to get a photo of it. Be aware of others passing by (the road is not too big). Adjust your car in case someone else wants to pass. The route (F208) requires a 4x4 vehicle and is closed during winter. When traveling in Iceland, it is always nice to check www.safetravel.is for travel information.
