Iceland Skogafoss front view
With a height of 60 meters (200ft) and a width of 25 meters (80ft), Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s most iconic and breathtaking waterfalls, located in the south of the country near the village of Skógar.
Skógafoss sits at the base of ancient sea cliffs that once marked Iceland’s coastline. As the coastline receded, these cliffs remained inland, forming a dramatic boundary between the coastal lowlands and the highlands.

* Winter: Offers icy textures and fewer tourists.
Composition Tips
* Wide Angle Lens: Capture the full height and width of the waterfall.
* Foreground Interest: Include rocks, grass, or people to add scale and depth.
* Vertical Orientation: Works well to emphasize the height.
* Leading Lines: Use the river or path to guide the viewer’s eye toward the falls.
Include People for Scale:
* A person standing near the base emphasizes the waterfall’s grandeur.
* Use a small aperture (f/8–f/11) to keep both the person and waterfall in focus.

Take Route 1 (Ring Road) east → turn off at Skógar village to reach the Skógafoss parking area.
There is a path from the parking lot that runs along side the river. Taking this you can get really close to the falls.
