Iceland Stokksnes
A premier photography spot famous for its dramatic mountain peaks and rolling black sand dunes. Come here for perfect tidal reflections, epic Northern Lights foregrounds, and stunning coastal long exposures.
Photography Tips
Bring an ultra-wide lens and a sturdy tripod to withstand the fierce coastal winds. Get your camera as low to the ground as possible to use the ripples in the black sand dunes as leading lines. If you want those famous mirror reflections of the mountain, visit right after high tide when the receding water leaves a thin, glassy layer over the flat beach.
Travel Information
For optimal photography of the Northern Lights over the mountain, the best time to visit is between February and April. Make sure to dress accordingly—do not underestimate this advice! The weather here can be absolutely freezing.
