New Zealand Track to Mount Brown Peak, Lake Kaniere

Mount Brown Peak near Lake Kaniere offfers a beautiful 360 panorama to the nearby green mountain range, the lakeside and all the way to the sea. For me it is special cause it isn't a usual well known hiking trail and you will meet just a very few people.

Use a tele-zoom lens for minimalistic mountain shots like this one. It is worth is to cary it with you on the mountain peaks and extended your portfolio.

A hiking trip to the nearby Mount Brown Hut is around 8,9 km out-and-back with 983 meter of elevation. It is a very challenging hike and requires a really good level of fitness. The background for this assessment is the trail itself. Sometimes it is difficult to find the right way. Small marker on the trees can help you here. At some points in the bush line it is very step and slippery. After the bush line you will enter a very muddy ground.

The hike to the peak leads you all the way over the ridgeline. For around 1,5km one way it is a very small and sometimes tricky path. So please take care here!

Mount Brown Hut is a backcountry hut. All bookings are first-come first-served. There is no reservation possibility. So please take your tent and sleeping gear with you, if you definitely want to stay up in the mountains and to be safe in case the hut is full.
