South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands Mt. Carse Glacier, South Georgia
Gold Harbour is one of the most iconic wildlife landing sites on South Georgia Island, famous for its dramatic backdrop of hanging glaciers and steep mountains. At its southern Bay, you have small little beaches with dramatic backdrops.
Photography Tips
Classic compositions help here. The settings should be set to fast shutters even though you're taking shots of landscapes. This is due to the reason that being on a zodiac can be quite rocky, depending on the conditions. Therefore, the photos can be unsharp if you choose a slow shutter. Also, activate your VR if available.
Travel Information
Travel to Gold Harbour is only possible via expedition cruise ships, as there are no airports or permanent settlements on South Georgia Island. Most voyages depart from Ushuaia or occasionally the Falkland Islands, crossing the often rough Southern Ocean. Visitors can only go ashore with guided landings during the austral summer, when weather and sea conditions are most favorable.
