Svalbard & Jan Mayen Islands Portierbreen
Portierbreen in Raudfjorden is a striking Arctic glacier framed by steep mountains and deep blue water. The landscape feels vast and remote, with drifting ice and sharp contrasts between snow, rock, and sea creating an almost unreal silence.
Photography Tips
Get low and watch out for ice in the water to get some nice foreground. Furthermore, expose for the highlights. Otherwise you will loose highlights on the ice.
Travel Information
Most travelers reach this place in the north by expedition ship from Longyearbyen, usually as part of an Arctic cruise around Spitsbergen. This is mostly only doable by a multi-day journey, not by a day trip.
