This is the perfect spot for rainy days and one of my overall favorite ones in London because it adds an awesome framing to your image. This place is even great for model shootings.

Hint: Big Ben is currently under construction, which will probably last until 2021/2022.

Photography Tips

Depending on what you want to achieve you should think about using a tripod and make a multi exposure that you can blend together to get all the details in- and outside. To get everything extremely sharp your f-stop should be around f11.
If it's raining you should take care of water drops, falling from the ceiling of this cave. I simply protected my lens with a lens hood.

Travel Information

This spot is on the other side of Big Ben, so you could use the tube to get to Westminster Underground Station and walk over Westminster Bridge to that spot. It's pretty easy to find when you leave the bridge and walk downstairs.

I have been planning this shot for months now and I have finally arrived in London, but when I got to Big Ben it was all covered up and looks awful... I am so disappointed. I honestly love this photo and really wanted to try to get a similar shot in colour.

Yeah, I heard about it and Michael in the comment below mentioned it as well so that I did even add this info to the spot description. That's so unfortunate and I am really sorry for you, BUT that's also a great reason to come back to this amazing city and there are still so many other beautiful spots and perspectives that you might like. Hope you still have a great time in London!

2018 update - Big Ben now on reconstruction for next few years.

I heard that as well... that's unfortunate. As far as I know it's until 2020/2021, so this spot is definitely less good until then, thanks for adding this info here Michael!

Yep.. I was in London last week and was surprised to find this by myself :) So putting this here to let people know and be able to plan their photo plans accordingly

Much appreciated, also added this as a hint to the spot description itself. Thanks again!

Wow, I'll try this shot in the coming days! Thanks for sharing. Did you use aperture bracketing or just a small aperture?

I used a Canon 7D for this shot, so I didn't have the need for Focus Stacking because it's no fullframe sensor. If you have one, I would definitely recommend you to take multiple shots, but this depends very much on your lens etc. Good luck with your shot and feel free to add it afterwards to this spot, so that we can see your result! I am definitely curious! :)

Uploaded my result of today :) Unfortunately I only had a prime 50mm with me, but I think it came out OK , what's your opinion?

Really nice sharpness and I definitely like the brightness of the image. I would have added the sides to the image, because now the top of your image is "flying" for the viewer. Why didn't you take a horizontal panorama with the 50mm? Should work easily with a static scene like this one. Nonetheless a great result, hope you liked this spot as much as I did, although I was "lucky" with the rain that day, adding the perfect mood to the image.

Thank you for the feedback. I was already struggeling to put the camera all the way to the backwall to capture some corners. Next time I'll bring the 14-24mm. Very nice location!
