The landscapes around Hanksville are otherworldly. There is a research station that studies the potential for living on Mars because the landscape is very similar. You cannot enter the station property, but sometimes you will see the researchers travelling about in space suits.

Photography Tips

It is a good area for drone photography of the Bentonite hills surrounding the research station. But no drones are permitted over the station property.

The road is rough and may require a 4WD. It is not passable after heavy rains.
