Georgia Green Lake, Goderdzi, Georgia

Green Lake is one of the most atmospheric locations in the Goderdzi mountain region. Surrounded by dense forest and high alpine terrain, its turquoise water can look especially dramatic under cloudy skies. The small wooden boat platform provides a perfect focal point—and in this case, a stranger in a bright yellow dress stepped into the scene at exactly the right moment, creating an incredible contrast against the deep blues and greens.

Look for viewpoints slightly above the lake rather than photographing only from the shoreline. A telephoto lens is ideal for shooting through the surrounding trees and using dark branches as a natural frame. Including a person on the platform adds both scale and a strong focal point. Bright clothing works particularly well against the muted colors of the lake, although sometimes, as with this shot, you simply have to get lucky and wait for the perfect person to enter your composition.

Green Lake is located in the mountains near Goderdzi Pass and feels considerably more remote than many attractions around Batumi. The final approach follows rough mountain roads, so check road conditions and weather before visiting, and bring a suitable vehicle. Once at the lake, take some time to explore the surrounding paths rather than staying directly at the waterfront, as several elevated perspectives offer much stronger photographic compositions.
