Georgia Beshumi Village, Georgia

Beshumi is one of the most unique villages in the Goderdzi mountain region. Scattered across rolling alpine meadows, dozens of small wooden houses with colorful roofs create an almost storybook-like landscape. The combination of traditional summer cottages, green hills, and clouds drifting across the mountains makes Beshumi completely different from the coastal landscapes around Batumi. I was lucky to get some sunshine here, because the low clouds are very common and tend to linger.

A drone is perfect for showing Beshumi's scale and unusual layout. Instead of focusing on a single building, look for clusters of colorful houses and use the winding dirt roads and fields as leading lines through the frame. Low clouds and mist work exceptionally well here, adding depth and separating the landscape's different layers. A vertical composition can be especially strong when combining a colorful foreground cabin with the village disappearing into the clouds behind it. I like to use a polarization filter to keep the colors in my images!

Beshumi sits high in the mountains of Adjara, near Goderdzi Pass, and is best known as a seasonal mountain resort. It makes an excellent stop when exploring the Goderdzi region and pairs well with Green Lake and other nearby alpine locations. Road and weather conditions can change considerably in the mountains, so allow plenty of time for the journey. Exploring the smaller roads around the village reveals some of the best viewpoints over its colorful houses. There aren´t many designated parking areas, so make sure to not stop on the road or block private drive aways if you visit.
