Greenland Røde Ø (Red Island) and iceberg graveyard, Scoresbysund

Røde Ø (Red Island) sits at the entrance to Rødefjord, surrounded by striking red sandstone and some of the largest concentrations of grounded icebergs in Scoresbysund. The shallow waters around the island trap the ice, creating an extensive “iceberg graveyard” where massive bergs remain stranded and slowly break apart and melt over time.

Use a wide angle for more landscape in your framing and place a person for a nice scale to show the audience how big this place is.

If you see some seagulls around try to shoot them with a high shutter and burst mode. It is super cool to get them in a framing with the blue structures of the water and the ice.

A 360 view is worth it. Not just look to iceberg graveyard but also to the other direction where the sailing boats are waiting.

Scoresbysund is one of the most remote places you can reach in Greenland. There are no roads or infrastructure here. The area is explored by sailing boat, smaller expedition vessel, kayak or multi-day guided kayak trips, with August to roughly mid-September being the best window to experience it. Just around 500 people coming per year.
