Greenland Eielson Glacier, Scoresbysund

Eielson Glacier in Scoresbysund is a striking wall of ice surrounded by steep, rugged mountains and the remote landscapes of East Greenland. Its blue ice, deep crevasses, and constantly changing surface reveal the power of the Arctic environment. Reaching the glacier by boat offers a unique perspective on the scale and beauty of this frozen landscape.

A long lens like the 100–500mm is incredibly useful in that area because the landscape is so vast and dramatic but far away from the sailing boat. It lets you isolate distant glaciers, waterfalls, icebergs and mountain details, compress the layers of the landscape, and capture perspectives you simply can’t reach with a wide-angle lens.

Scoresbysund is one of the most remote places you can reach in Greenland. There are no roads or infrastructure here. The area is explored by sailing boat, smaller expedition vessel, kayak or multi-day guided kayak trips, with August to roughly mid-September being the best window to experience it. Just around 500 people coming per year.
