Wijdefjorden is surrounded by wide, desolate shorelines where tundra, glaciers, and dark mountain ridges meet the cold Arctic sea. The immense scale and quietness of the fjord create a feeling of complete isolation, especially when low clouds and drifting ice move through the landscape.

Most travelers reach this fjord by expedition ship from Longyearbyen, usually as part of an Arctic cruise around Spitsbergen. This is mostly only doable by a multi-day journey, not by a day trip.
