Saxon Switzerland (DE: Sächsische Schweiz) is the German part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxony (DE: Sachsen). The landscape, characterized by bizarre rock formations, is located southeast of Dresden on both sides of the Elbe River in the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge.

The mountain formation is quite unusual for Germany and therefore a very popular travel goal for photographers and tourists in general.

Travel tips for Saxon Switzerland

The Saxon Switzerland is a great location to visit when you combine it with a visit in Dresden for example. It's located south near the Czech border and could therefore also be combined with a visit in the beautiful city of Prague, especially when visiting this area by car.
