About the location
The castle dates back to the 14th century, though the site has been fortified since the 12th century. Its position on a high bank makes it a commanding subject for landscape photography, especially when framed against the shifting waters of the Highland coast. The textures of the aged stone walls, weathered by centuries of North Sea winds, provide excellent opportunities for detailed shots and long exposures. The surrounding Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve adds a layer of natural beauty, with various bird species and seals often visible from the castle heights.
