About the location
The falls originate from mountain glaciers and drop from heights of up to 250 meters directly into the fjord. Directly across the water is another waterfall known as Friaren (The Suitor), adding a narrative element to the landscape that photographers can exploit for storytelling. The sheer scale and the misty atmosphere created by the falling water provide endless opportunities for capturing the raw power of Norwegian nature.
The vertical orientation of the falls makes them a perfect subject for portrait-oriented compositions that emphasize the depth of the fjord. Depending on the weather, the falls can range from delicate silver threads against dark rock to thundering torrents that fill the air with spray.
